I started writing UltimateRack for dual reasons. The first reason was that I like a mental coding challenge, this project offered that. The second was that I personally think all the "Rack Builders" out there truly suck. All of them merely take graphics and throw them in a table. There is no accounting for devices or accouterments. They are mostly just a rough rendition of what a rack should kind of look like. In addition, you didn't really get a true graphic of a rack. I set out to fix what I think of as the deficiencies of those rack builders.
Eventually, I will release all of the source code under GNU or GPL. I haven't decided which to use yet. I have done all my coding to allow the program to accept totally different ribbon sets; hence, if someone from the Canadian Police or the NYFD or the Swiss Army wanted to use the program, they can simply create a ribbon set and off they go!
